Home to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Vancouver has one of the most picturesque settings in the world. Grouped with Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong the physical surroundings will inspire any visitor. Located next to the Pacific Ocean, the mild, humidity-free "West Coast Maritime Temperate" climate is comfortable on the hottest days.
The geography of the area provides many sporting opportunities from skiing/snow-boarding, hiking, mountain biking on the North Shore Mountains, to sailing, windsurfing, swimming on our many beaches, golfing, tennis and scuba diving in Vancouver. There are more tennis players, more runners, more boats, more fitness classes and more vertical feet of skiing in Vancouver than any other city in Canada. It is difficult to name a sport that you cannot do within an hour drive from downtown Vancouver.
The City of Vancouver has many beautiful parks and excellent beaches. These include world renowned Stanley Park, Van Dusen Botanical Gardens, UBC Botanical Gardens, Queen Elizabeth Park, Pacific Spirit Regional Park, Jericho Beach, Sunset Beach, Spanish Banks Beach , Ambelside Beach, English Bay Beach, & Second and Third Beach in Stanley Park.
